Privacy Policy

Dopamine Detox ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, retain, and delete your data when you use the Dopamine Detox application ("App") and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• Email address and username (required for account creation)
• If you sign in with Google: your Google account identifier and the email address Google shares with us (we do not receive your Google password)
• Habit tracking data (habits, completions, streaks, journal entries)
• Your chronotype (morning, intermediate or evening), if you choose one, and your reminder settings
• Answers to in-app or emailed surveys you choose to respond to
• Messages you send us through the contact form (your name, email address and message)
• Your email address, if you join our waitlist or newsletter
• Subscription and payment information (processed by Stripe and RevenueCat; we do not store full payment card details)

Information collected automatically:

• Device information (device type, operating system, browser, app version)
• Your time zone, read from your device so reminders arrive at your local time
• Usage and analytics data, unless you opt out (see Section 3): pages viewed, features used and clicks, performance metrics such as page load times (web vitals), and your approximate location (city and country) derived from your IP address. This data is pseudonymous: it is linked to your account by an internal account number, not by your name, email or username
• On the website only, session replays of how pages are used, with all text and form inputs masked. The mobile app does not record sessions
• Error and crash reports from our servers, the website and the mobile app, to diagnose problems (via Sentry): technical details such as the device model, operating system, app version and what the app was doing when it failed. Sentry also records the approximate location (country and city) the report was sent from; your IP address is not stored. We do not attach your account to them
• How you found us, recorded once when you create your account: the platform you signed up on (web, Android or iOS), the campaign tags of the link you arrived through (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign), the domain of the website that referred you (never the full address) and the page path. If you accepted analytics cookies, these are noted on your device from your first visit until you sign up; otherwise nothing is stored on your device and they are read once, at signup, from the page you are on. This is our own record, kept with your account and included in your data export; it is not shared with analytics or advertising providers. See the Cookie Policy.

2. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and maintain the App and its features
• To track your habits, streaks, and progress toward your goals
• To provide AI-powered coaching and insights, when those features are available
• To process subscriptions and payments
• To send notifications and reminders you have opted into
• To understand how the App is used and improve it (product analytics)
• To understand which channels (for example a website, a campaign or an app store) bring signups, counted in aggregate
• To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security issues

3. Data Sharing

We may share limited data with the following service providers who assist in operating the App:

• Stripe & RevenueCat — payment and subscription processing
• Anthropic (Claude AI) — AI features, when available, send the content they work on (for example a journal entry or coaching message) to Anthropic, which processes it on our behalf under its API terms
• Sentry — error monitoring
• PostHog — product analytics, and session replays on the website only (all text and inputs masked). Analytics are pseudonymous: you are identified by an internal account number, never your name, email or username. You can turn analytics off in Settings or on the cookie banner
• Resend — email delivery, and our waitlist / newsletter list
• Google — sign-in, if you choose Sign in with Google

We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide the App's services and fulfill the purposes described in this policy:

• Account data (email, username, settings) — retained for as long as your account is active
• Habit tracking data (habits, completions, streaks, journal entries) — retained for as long as your account is active
• AI coaching conversations — retained for up to 90 days to provide conversation history, then automatically deleted
• Analytics and usage data — pseudonymous (linked to your account number), retained for up to 24 months, and deleted at our analytics provider when your account is deleted
• Error and crash logs — error logs retained for up to 90 days
• Payment records — retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically up to 7 years)

When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymized.

5. Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your data at any time through the following methods:

• In-app account deletion: Go to Settings > Delete Account. This starts a 30-day grace period during which you can log back in and cancel the deletion in Settings. During the grace period we send you no reminder, engagement or marketing emails.
• Web form: Visit dopaminedetox.app/delete-account to submit a deletion request.
• Email: Contact dopaminedetoxapp@gmail.com to request data deletion.

When your account is deleted, we remove:

• Your profile and account information
• All habit tracking data, streaks, and completions
• Journal entries and AI coaching history
• Notification preferences and device tokens
• All associated personal data
• Your analytics profile and events at PostHog, your address in our waitlist / newsletter list at Resend, and your customer records at our payment providers, which we ask each of them to delete

After the 30-day grace period, deletion is permanent and irreversible. Certain data may be retained as required by law (e.g., payment records for tax compliance). Before deleting, you can download a copy of your data from Settings > Data export.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including AES-256-GCM encryption for sensitive fields, secure HTTPS connections, and access controls. While no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, we continuously work to protect your personal information.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:

• Access — request a copy of your personal data (available via GDPR Data Export in Settings)
• Correction — update or correct inaccurate data via your account settings
• Deletion — request deletion of your data as described in Section 5
• Portability — export your data in a machine-readable format (JSON)
• Withdraw consent — opt out of optional data processing (e.g., analytics, notifications) at any time

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
